ADVANTAGES OF MODULAR ZINCALUME™ STEEL, LINED RESERVOIRS OVER CONCRETE RESERVOIRS
CONSTRUCTION TIME OF CONCRETE RESERVOIR
The walls of modular steel water tanks are assembled in a fraction of the time that it takes to construct a brick/mortar/concrete reservoir on a foundation /concrete slab (Note: Rainbow Reservoir water storage tanks of capacity less than 400,000l require NO foundations of any kind!)
Curing time for brick/concrete walls is not a consideration since steel panel walls are used.
Labour costs are significantly reduced due to a considerably shorter construction time period.
TOTAL MATERIAL COST OF STEEL TANKS IS CHEAPER THAN CONCRETE RESERVOIRS
Reinforced ring beams required for bolted Zincalume™ reservoirs exceeding 400,000l in capacity are cheaper to construct (requiring significantly less concrete) than the reinforced concrete foundations and base slab necessary for brick/mortar reservoirs of a similar size.
BOLTED ZINCALUME™ RESERVOIRS ARE ACCURATELY STRESS CO-EFFICIENT ENGINEERED
Since internal stresses imposed on reservoirs are determinate, appropriate stress-resistant steel walls can be designed economically and with confidence, to withstand the lateral pressures exerted by water on the tank walls.
MATERIAL FLEXIBILITY
Bolted Zincalume™ reservoirs have much greater flexibility than any rigid brick/mortar/concrete structure. This flexibility allows for:
greater resistance to shock or vibrations,
resistance to pressure changes within the reservoir,
increased tolerance to withstand soil movements to a greater degree than cement reservoirs.
ZINCALUME™ RESERVOIRS REMAIN UNAFFECTED BY TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS
Zincalume™ is not structurally affected by extreme or sudden temperature variations often associated with cracking in cement structures.
CONCRETE RESERVOIRS ARE MORE LIKELY TO LEAK
The steel wall structure cannot “crack” – cracking is the greatest cause of leakage in cement dams.
Steel Zincalume™ walls form an impenetrable barrier that protects the impervious liner of Zincalume™ tanks from external puncturing.
LEAKAGES CAN BE EASILY REPAIRED
Holes in liners can be patched.
Steel panels can be repaired or replaced. It is a well-known fact that cracks in concrete reservoirs are unlikely to be repaired successfully in the long term.
MODULAR STEEL TANKS ARE TRANSLOCATABLE
Bolted Zincalume™ reservoirs are able to be dissembled and re-assembled elsewhere, unlike concrete reservoirs
BOLTED STEEL TANKS OFFER A CHOICE OF COLOURS BAKED ONTO THE STEEL.
Bolted Zincalume™ reservoirs are available in a variety of colours. Should cement reservoirs need to be coloured, they need to be painted resulting in additional material and labour costs.
Frequent paint applications increase the ongoing maintenance component of cement-constructed reservoirs.
Any leaks in cement reservoirs cause rapid deterioration (chemical breakdown, algal deposits and discoloration) of the paintwork leaving the reservoir looking shabby, dishevelled and unkempt. This is a distinct visual “no-no!” in reservoirs installed expressly for the provision of potable, drinking water.
STEEL RE-ENFORCING WITHIN CONCRETE WALLS CAN EXPAND
Concrete tanks with re-enforced steel walls are subjected to oxidization within the steel. This may result in expansion/swelling of the steel re-enforcing which in turn, causes the concrete walls to crack.
LIME LEECHING
In concrete reservoirs, lime (inherent in concrete) can leech into the water. Rainbow Reservoirs steel water storage tanks are lined with inert 720 gsm, UV stabilized, PVC liners that have food-grade, human potability certifications and that impart no taste or colour to the stored water
